Potential Phillies trade target receives hip injections ahead of deadline

With the MLB Trade Deadline closing shut in only a few days, teams around the league are busy trying to get deals done for the remainder of the season. It'd have to be imagined that the Philadelphia Phillies will be one of these teams, as previously reported, the National League East side has plenty of holes to fill.

One of those holes was an additional bat in the outfield, which could be a way of filling the void that was left by Adolis Garcia, who suffered from a season-ending right lat tear in early June. This injury left the Phillies down a bat that was slashing a lackluster .195/.270/.329, with seven home runs and 21 RBIs.

While they've been tied to many players to fill Garcia's shoes, one of them was the Minnesota Twins' Byron Buxton, who is in the midst of an incredible season with the American League Central side, slashing .263/.320/.544 with 25 home runs and 45 RBIs. All of this was enough to see Buxton already play in Philadelphia's Citizens Bank Park, as a member of the American League All-Star roster during the mid-summer classic.

Buxton receives treatment for recurring hip injury

Just as he's been great for Minnesota this season, and most of his time in the Twin Cities, he's also been known to miss time on the field due to a multitude of injuries, but most predominantly, a right hip impingement.

This is what has caused the American League All-Star to be on the Twins' injury report at the moment, but it's become apparent that Buxton is looking to solve his nagging injury. According to MLB.com's Matthew Leach, Buxton has received hip injections as a way of dealing with the ailment for the time being.

"Buxton received an injection and hopes that this time, he’ll knock out the condition for the remainder of the year," writes Leach.

The injections come just a few days ahead of the aforementioned trade deadline, and could factor into whether or not the Phillies opt to make a second-straight deadline-day deal with the Twins, having acquired Harrison Bader just before the window shut last season.
