Potential Maxx Crosby trade to Bears gets unexpected vote of confidence

The Chicago Bears had a crazy-good win over the Carolina Panthers on Sunday to kick off their season with a 59-37 final score. It really set the tone for the Bears' season and shows that Ben Johnson and company are serious about this team and its ride this year.

But, note that it was a high-scoring game. Both defenses could use some work, and it's been a glaring issue for the Bears that their current lineup is without a truly elite edge rusher. That's why the Bears were interested in Las Vegas Raiders edge rusher Maxx Crosby during the offseason.

Maxx Crosby to the Bears Is Still a Possibility

Well, the idea of Crosby going to the Bears is still out here, and it's not losing any steam. Speaking on "The Jim Rome Show," former Kansas City Chiefs player Mitchell Schwartz backed the idea.

"You almost wonder if maybe there's a Maxx Crosby trade brewing at the deadline, some way to kind of bolster that defense," Schwartz said during an appearance on the program Monday, Sept. 14. "If they are going to score the way they are and they're going to have 10, 14, 17-point leads in the third and fourth quarter, you're going to have to get after the quarterback at some point."

He added, "You're going to have to make a couple of stops. A guy like that brings versatility in running and passing."

It's certainly the case that Crosby would be a solid edge to the Bears' defense, and that's just what Chicago needs.
