With the World Cup Round of 16 here, two longtime rivals of Spain and Portugal are set to meet with a trip to the quarterfinals on the line.
Spain enters the match having won three of its four matches thus far, with a draw vs. Cape Verde spoiling a perfect record. La Roja most recently defeated Austria with a commanding 3-0 win and has so far held all four of its opponents scoreless in the World Cup.
Lamine Yamal is of course the star to watch for Spain, but he has just one goal in four games. Instead, Mikel Oyarzabal leads the team with four goals in the tournament, the only player on the team with multiple goals in the World Cup, while goalie Unai Simon is perfect in net.
However, Spain must get a Portugal team hoping to come out on top of this edition of the Iberian Derby.
Portgual finished second in group play thanks to two separate draws, but the team still hasn't lost outright in four matches. Most recently, Portugal edged out Croatia in the Round of 32 as a Goncalo Ramos goal was the deciding score.
Now in the knockouts, Cristiano Ronaldo enters each match like it could be his last in the World Cup. The Portuguese star finally scored his first knockout stage goal last round vs. Croatia, as he leads Portugal with three goals in the tournament.
The winner of this match is looking not only to move into the quarterfinals to face either the United States or Belgium, but bragging rights over their neighbor as well.
