The Portland Trail Blazers and LA Lakers squared off at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on Monday. The Lakers came into the game severely depleted, with just seven active roster players available to suit up. Coach JJ Redick was forced to shake up the starting lineup with both Luka Doncic and Marcus Smart sidelined.
Austin Reaves was joined in the starting lineup by Rui Hachimura, Deandre Ayton, Jake LaRavia and Jarred Vanderbilt.. On the flip side, Toumani Camara, Deni Avdija, Donovan Clingan, Jrue Holiday and Shaedon Sharpe started for the Blazers.
The Lakers started strongly, with Austin Reaves helping the team build a 21-18 lead with 13 quick points. The Blazers tried different defenders and coverages on Reaves, but weren't able to slow him down.
The Lakers' bench failed to protect the lead built by Reaves and the starters. The Blazers closed the opening period on an 8-1 run and took a 28-24 lead into the second quarter.
