Portland Fire's Megan DiLeo has massive night in first game since marriage, name change

Megan Gustafson is now Megan DiLeo.

She was married last weekend, leaving the Portland Fire for a wedding break to put a ring on it, and with it came the name change.

Now back with her WNBA team, the former Iowa star had a big night.

Fans often talk about the boost that new fathers get after a child is born. How about the boost a newlywed gets on the court?

DiLeo's first game back with the Fire was Wednesday night, and she was hooping.

DiLeo dropped 21 points, making 9-of-13 shots from the floor, including 2-for-5 from 3-point range:

DiLeo was a college star at the University of Iowa but has been a journeying WNBA player -- from the Dallas Wings to Washington Mystics to Phoenix Mercury to Las Vegas Aces to Portland Fire.

She's never played as much before as she has this year, and she's making it pay off.

DiLeo's previous career-high was 7.9 points per game in 2023 with Phoenix. It's up to 12.6 points per game this season.

She's shooting more 3-pointers than she ever has, and she's making 40.0% of them.

It's a cool glow-up for DiLeo, who has now achieved an incredible personal moment with her marriage, too.

Portland is glad to have her back, no matter what the name on the back of her jersey says. Meg is still hooping, and the Fire will happily appreciate that.
