A popular AEW name has explained why a prominent show powered by the promotion recently shut down for good. The star also added that he's made peace with the situation.
That name is RJ City, who used to host the now-concluded popular show Hey! (EW), which regularly appeared on AEW's Official YouTube channel. Last week, Tony Khan's promotion uploaded the 165th episode and the final edition of the show, which featured only City, who then delivered a monologue announcing the discontinuation. Now, he has gone into further detail about the show's shutdown in a recent appearance on the AEW Unrestricted podcast.
On the podcast, City revealed that he had run the show into the ground and that it was hard to secure guests.
“I think I just ran it into the ground and said, ‘Well, I think we've reached our destination.’ We did four years. We did 165 episodes. As I said in the episode, we were down to the no’s and the a**holes. I don't know if you're familiar with this, but it's very hard to get guests. Then I'm like, I don't know if I want to have people on again. I don't know if I want to do a second Eddie Kingston one and the people are like, ‘It’s not as good as the first.’"Real Reason why Mick Foley Quit WWE - Check Here!
The host then said he has acknowledged and made peace with feeling sad about the show's shutdown.
"But also, as I've gotten older, I realize it's good to be sad about things. It's good to end something and be sad about it and go, ‘That was good’ and end it while it was good,” said RJ City [H/T: WrestlePurists on X]Check out Hey! (EW)'s last episode down below:
RJ City recently confirmed that he's still with AEW following the shutdown of Hey! (EW)
Following the closure of Hey! (EW), many fans wondered whether the Jacksonville-based promotion still employed RJ City. Those speculations were put to rest by a recent Fightful report stating that the host is still with All Elite Wrestling, and City himself indirectly confirmed it with a post on X, which read:
"The disappointment around my lack of unemployment has been comforting."The disappointment around my lack of unemployment has been comforting.
It will be interesting to see what comes next for RJ City in All Elite Wrestling.
