"Please save us Elon Musk"; "Peter Seidler would be so ashamed" - Padres fans react to ownership exploring a sale of the franchise

Having bought the San Diego Padres for $800 million in 2012, Peter Seidler went on to become an extremely popular figure at Petco Park. Making sizeable investments in the roster year after year, Seidler left no stone unturned in an effort to help the Padres win their first championship.

After Peter Seidler tragically passed away in September 2023, his brother, John, took charge. Unfortunately for fans, it appears John Seidler does not share his late brother's enthusiasm for guiding the Padres to the promised land.

As insider Kevin Acee reported via X on Thursday, John Seidler and his family are allegedly looking to sell the organization.

Peter would be so ashamed

"What better way to honor Peter’s legacy and his infamous quote 'I will not sell this franchise and it will be in my family for generations after I’m gone' than by selling the team right after his death. Class act John" another fan replied "You could see this from left field. John's body language is showing up for board meetings and catch the next flight out." another fan responded "Lmao all the people who backed the trash a** Seidler brothers saying money wasn’t their MO. Disgrace to Peter, all of them. Rode his coattails until the very end and pissing on his grave now with ending the vision he had for his family" another fan shared "Broooooo what loser scum bags just completely tarnishing Peter’s legacy" another fan posted

Along with a potential change in the boardroom, the Padres have plenty of changes to get used to on the field in 2026

By the time preparation for the 2026 season begins next spring, the San Diego Padres might already be under new ownership. Along with a potential change in the boardroom that may take place soon, the Friars must also quickly get used to several developments on the field.

The biggest, of course, is the arrival of new manager Craig Stammen, after former skipper Mike Shildt announced his decision to part ways with the organization shortly after the end of the 2025 season.

A significant change in personnel might also be on the cards. Fan favorite pitchers Michael King and Dylan Cease are both free agents, and veteran Yu Darvish is set to miss the whole season as he recovers from surgery. As a result, San Diego's starting pitching rotation might look extremely different by the time the 2026 season begins.
