Pittsburgh Steelers kicker Chris Boswell on pace to smash NFL record

2 hours ago 1

The Pittsburgh Steelers picked up a pivotal divisional victory over the Baltimore Ravens in Week 11, improving head coach Mike Tomlin's squad's record to 8-2 while also keeping sole possession of the first place in the AFC North through 11 weeks. Pittsburgh will travel to Huntington Bank Field to take on the Cleveland Browns on Thursday Night Football in Week 12.

The Steelers' offense did enough to come away with the win on Sunday, but it was an uninspiring outing from Arthur Smith's unit. Pittsburgh failed to find the end zone and converted just four first downs in 16 attempts. Luckily, kicker Chris Boswell had another fantastic game, nailing all six of his field goal attempts, including three from 50-plus yards.

Boswell struggled to crack an NFL roster before joining the Steelers in the middle of the 2015 season, but the veteran has been one of the best players at his position since arriving in the Steel City. Boswell was selected to the Pro Bowl in 2017 and has made 88.1% of his field goals in his near 10-season career.

Despite being 33 years old, Boswell is having a career year in 2024, and according to Gerry Dulac of Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the former undrafted free agent is on pace to have the most prolific campaign by a kicker in league history.

Boswell has made 29 field goals through 10 games this season and only needs 16 more to break the single-season record set by former San Francisco 49ers Pro Bowler David Akers.

Chris Boswell is on pace to have the most prolific season by a kicker in league history. He has a league-high 29 field goals after 10 games, putting him on track to break the season record of 44 set by San Francisco’s David Akers in 2011.

Additionally, Boswell is the second kicker in NFL history to make six field goal attempts in a game twice in a single season, joining former San Diego Chargers All-Pro John Carney.

Chris Boswell’s six FGs against the Ravens was the second time this season he has kicked 6 in a game, matching the season opener in Atlanta. The only other kicker to do it twice in the same season was San Diego’s John Carney in 1993, per @EliasSports.

Boswell's near-flawless start to the 2024 campaign has established the former Rice standout as the best kicker in the NFL. The veteran is on his way to earning his first All-Pro nod and has been key to Pittsburgh's incredible season thus far.
