With the Eastern Conference wide open, the Detroit Pistons have a chance to try and make it to their first NBA Finals since 2005. If they want to do it, they need to make sure their roster is the best it can possibly be.
Bleacher Report’s Eric Pincus believes one move that the Pistons could make is trading for Atlanta Hawks All-Star Trae Young, creating a dangerous back court with Cade Cunningham.
The trade would look like this:
Hawks get: Jaden Ivey, Tobias Harris, first-round pick
Pistons get: Trae Young

“While Ivey has struggled to stay healthy in recent years, he's a talented young guard in a different salary stratosphere than Young. Detroit was unable to reach a rookie-scale extension before the season; the Hawks would make Ivey a restricted free agent before July…The Pistons would have to believe in the Cade Cunningham/Young pairing, especially in the postseason when defenses find ways to stop a singular offensive creator. Cunningham's size and potential to play off the ball could work—though Detroit may need to find another deal elsewhere for another forward to replace Harris,” Pincus wrote.
In his career, Young has averaged 25.3 points, 3.5 rebounds, 9.8 assists, and a steal per game. Combining him with Cunningham, Detroit’s back court would be a duo of maestros who can thread the ball and shoot it from deep.

While the Pistons would be losing height in Ivey and Harris, they still have Jalen Duren to hold it down in the middle and grab rebounds from Young and Cunningham’s jumpers. If they need to, they could always sign or trade for another big man.
Hopefully, the Pistons consider this trade. Their window is short, as the East is volatile, and momentum for any team could shift quickly in their favor.
