Pirates make veteran and young star untouchable at the trade deadline

We know two Pittsburgh players who won't be moving on at the trade deadline.

Pirates star right-handed pitcher Paul Skenes and veteran Pirate Andrew McCutchen have been deemed untouchable at the 2025 trade deadline, according to The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal.

Skenes, playing his second season in a Pirates uniform, is having a historic season. The fire-throwing right-hander has made 17 starts and has a 2.12 ERA in 106 innings pitched.

Skenes, who won the NL Rookie of the Year this past season, has made a name for himself quickly in the MLB.

McCutchen, a well-liked veteran throughout the league, is spending his 17th season in the MLB with the Pirates, the team that drafted him back in 2005.

McCutchen has been holding his own at the dish this season. The Pirates legend is batting .262 with eight home runs and a .745 OPS with 28 RBIs.

The Pirates won't have a shot at the playoffs this season due to their poor record, but Pirates fans can relax knowing their young stud and smooth veteran will be staying put at the deadline.
