The Dallas Mavericks begin the post-Nico Harrison era on Wednesday when they clash swords with the Phoenix Suns. Harrison, who became the most hated man in Dallas sports history over the infamous Luka Doncic trade, was finally fired on Tuesday after a terrible start to the season.
The pressure on Harrison had been simmering for sometime. Despite securing No. 1 pick Cooper Flagg, a series of unconvincing performances left him on shaky ground. And after just 20 days into the new season, Harrison was shown the door, leaving behind a roster in need of serious motivation to turn the season around.
Wins have been hard to come by for the Mavs this campaign, and the issue has become a glaring concern as they languish near the bottom of the Western Conference with a 3-8 record.

They suffered another loss at the hands of the Milwaukee Bucks, 116-114, on Monday. Flagg had a career-best 26 points (9-15 shooting), nine rebounds and four assists to pace the Mavs in the defeat. He’ll be desperate to help them break out of their losing skid.

The Suns seem to have found their footing as of late, winning three straight. This resurgence has propelled them to a 6-5 record, placing them seventh in the West.
They enter the game on the back of a huge 121-98 win against the Pelicans. They’ll be hoping not to fall back into old habits and slip up against a struggling team.

The Suns have a relatively clean bill of health coming into the game, although there is one major name missing: Jalen Green. The young guard suffered a right hamstring strain and will miss at least the next four to six weeks before being re-evaluated. Green had been dealing with hamstring issues for the past few months and left Saturday's game against the LA Clippers after aggravating the injury.
Jordan Ott is likely to field the same lineup used against the Pelicans: Royce O'Neale, Dillon Brooks, Mark Williams, Grayson Allen, and Devin Booker.

Plagued with injuries so far this season, the Mavs will yet again be without some big names in the starting lineup, as both Anthony Davis (calf) and Kyrie Irving (knee) are still nursing injuries.
Guard Dante Exum is also not in contention to feature as he continues his recovery from right knee soreness.
Dereck Lively II, who missed the team’s last eight games due to a right knee sprain, has been upgraded to questionable. His status will be confirmed closer to tipoff.
Barring any last-minute changes, Jason Kidd is most likely to go with a lineup of Daniel Gafford, P.J. Washington, Cooper Flagg, D’Angelo Russell, and Max Christie.
