Phillies urged to make third base upgrade with this Japanese slugger

Third base could be an area the Philadelphia Phillies look to make an upgrade at. They currently have Alec Bohm, but with his low home run numbers, the team could look to target a better-hitting third baseman over the winter.

Minds will automatically go to Alex Bregman, and for good reason. He will be the top third baseman on the open market, and one of the top free agents in all of baseball after opting out of his contract with the Boston Red Sox

With his popularity, he could be somebody who will be tough to sign. He will enter the winter loking for looking to receive a lucrative long-term contract.

If the Phillies do not want to go the Alex Bregman route, they will have other options to explore. Bo Bichette could be an option if he considers moving on from shortstop, or they can go after NPB star Munetaka Murakami, via The Athletic's Jim Bowden

"Another option for third base could be Munetaka Murakami, who has played for the Tokyo Yakult Swallows in Nippon Professional Baseball and is expected to be posted this offseason. He's a legitimate 30-home run hitter who gets on base at a high rate, but he's a below-average third baseman defensively."

The only thing that is to be considered is that Murakami is not the best when it comes to his glove. However, his potential at the plate could offset a few errors. He also has experience at first base, and could slide over there with Bryce Harper returning to the outfield.
