Phillies' Trea Turner nears return, ready to swing bat after hamstring injury

This past Sunday, Philadelphia Phillies slugger Trea Turner had to leave the game early against the Miami Marlins due to a hamstring injury. He sustained the injury while trying to beat out an infield single, but came up awkwardly at first base and hobbled to the dugout.

An MRI would later reveal that he is dealing with a Grade 1 hamstring strain, and he was then quickly placed on the 10-day injured list. It was a scary injury, especially with the regular season coming to a close soon, but he seems to be recovering well.

The earliest Turner can come off the IL would be on September 19 for the start of their three-game series against the Arizona Diamondbacks. However, he is not expected to return when he is first eligible.

According to The Athletic's Charlotte Varnes, Trea Turner did some pole running and played catch on Saturday. He is now scheduled to swing a bat on Sunday or Monday, via CBS Sports

"It doesn't seem likely that the veteran shortstop will be ready to return when first eligible, but the hope remains that he'll be able to get some games in before the postseason."

If Philadelphia wants to make a strong push in the postseason, it must have Turner firing on all cylinders. They will continue to monitor his progress and come up with a plan of attack to get him some games in before October baseball commences.
