The Los Angeles Angels are excited to see Mike Trout back to full health and performing at his best. The biggest priority for him is to play in the field as much as possible, and he got off to a strong start on Opening Day with a home run.

“Mike Trout homered to launch what he hopes will be a bounce-back year, leading the Los Angeles Angels to a season-opening 3-0 win over the Houston Astros on Thursday. Trout also walked three times and played center field for the first time since April 2024. The three-time MVP played 130 games last season, his most since 2019 because of various injuries,” WTOP News reported.

Trout is currently in the midst of a massive $430 million contract, which at the time was the largest in MLB history.

“Star center fielder Mike Trout and the Los Angeles Angels are finalizing the largest contract in professional sports history, a 12-year deal worth more than $430 million that will smash previous records and could keep the greatest player of his generation with the Angels for the remainder of his career, sources familiar with the deal told ESPN on Tuesday,” ESPN insider Jeff Passan wrote.

With Trout playing at his best early this season, trade rumors linking him to the Philadelphia Phillies have emerged.

“Trout is a hometown kid. He loves the Eagles and the Sixers. He grew up pulling for the Phillies. This would just feel natural. I am not sure fans who are used to rooting for Joel Embiid need the inherent instability of Mike Trout fandom in their lives, too, but he's hopefully fix a need and add the sort of middle-order power Philadelphia currently lacks. Trea Turner, Mike Trout, Kyle Schwarber and Bryce Harper is one hell of a four-man gauntlet. It helps Philly defensively, it addresses their poor production in the four-hole, and it proves how serious ownership and the front office are about building a winner,” FanSided’s Christopher Kline wrote.

The Phillies are in need of an outfield upgrade, as Adolis Garcia hasn’t shown signs of being the answer early on. In this potential scenario, Brandon Marsh could move to right field, with Trout taking over as the everyday center fielder.

A major consideration for this possible trade is keeping Trout healthy. It’s safe to say that he is feeling good, and the Phillies will be closely monitoring his status.
