Phillies' 'most likely' trade candidate is All-Star infielder with .734 OPS

The Philadelphia Phillies are expected to contend in the National League.

But like every team, the roster does have some flaws.

ESPN's David Schoenfield wrote Monday that the Phillies' likely needs at this year's trade deadline are upgrades in the bullpen and on the bench.

They could also promote their top prospect on MLB Pipeline and trade third baseman Alec Bohm, who will become a free agent at the end of the 2026 season.

"This is another situation with some moving parts. Bohm has been the Phillies' third baseman since 2020, but he's heading into free agency and is off to a slow start," wrote Schoenfield. "(He's also in an ongoing lawsuit against his parents alleging that they mismanaged his finances, as well as fired his agent, Scott Boras.)"

Through 20 games, Bohm is hitting just .139/.213/.194 with one home run and a .407 OPS. The Phillies could turn to 21-year-old Aidan Miller, whose primary position is shortstop.

"Meanwhile, top prospect Aidan Miller is waiting in the wings, except he hasn't played in the minors because of a back injury," Schoenfield added. "There's a scenario in which Miller gets healthy, hits his way to the majors, and the Phillies trade Bohm to clear room for Miller."

A separation between Bohm and the Phillies has been rumored for the past few years. This season feels like it may finally happen.
