The Philadelphia Phillies had a lot of promising predictions prior to the 2026 season starting. Many believed that the return of multiple 20+ home run hitters would be an easy bet to make with this lineup, but that is going to be tough with a very quiet showing from the core.
Bryce Harper, Kyle Schwarber, Trea Turner, and Alec Bohm comprise the most powerful parts of the batting order, and they have been very underwhelming. It has been devastating to watch at times, and this could be an ever-growing trend that could snowball throughout the rest of this season.
Core is not showing up
Turner is batting a staggering .176, Schwarber is batting a lackluster .125, Harper is batting an abysmal .067 and Bohm is cleaning up that mess with a batting average of .143. Together, that quadrant of their best bats are batting a combined 8-for-62 to start the 2026 campaign. Bohm and Schwarber both have one home run a piece to make up the power portion.
Definitely not a good luck.
Within all of that, the Phillies have 14 runs scored on the year, which is 16th-most in Major League Baseball. Brandon Marsh has picked up the slack with a team-leading .417 batting average.
Going forward, the Phils cannot be sustainable without their best players. Harper has to pick it up, Schwarber's 56 homers last season has to be replicated, and Turner is the key part of this equation with being the lead-off batter.
