Phillies hint at Alec Bohm replacement with Aidan Miller Spring Training decision

The Philadelphia Phillies offseason was a frustrating one for a lot of fans. While Kyle Schwarber is back, missing out on Bo Bichette to replace Alec Bohm at third base was a tough reality for the fanbase.

While the Phillies didn't land an MLB-ready Bohm replacement, there might be one waiting in the wings in Aidan Miller. But, he's not ready for the Major Leagues just yet. At least, that's the case for now.

According to Tim Kelly of On Pattison, Phillies manager Rob Thomson revealed the team's decision with Miller that might lead to Bohm being replaced at third base this upcoming season.

Phillies make Aidan Miller decision that's bad news for Alec Bohm

"Rob Thomson said the bulk of Aidan Miller's work this spring will come at third base and shortstop," Kelly reports. "he may also get some second base reps as well. Left field is not a consideration."

This report does a few things. Firstly, it shows how serious the Phillies are about developing Miller into a future star. They aren't experimenting with him in the outfield despite the need there being far greater than in the infield.

But, the most noteworthy part of this report is that Miller will be getting reps at two positions primarily this spring: third base and shortstop.

He's a shortstop in the minor leagues, but the Phillies seem intent on working him out at third base to see if he can replace Bohm.

This decision isn't too surprising, as Miller taking over in the infield at some position was always going to happen at some point.

But getting him reps at third base this spring is still very noteworthy. The plan is already in motion to replace Bohm and Miller; a great spring could force the Phillies to make an aggressive decision to start him right away.

Such a situation is unlikely. It would take Miller playing incredibly, and Bohm struggling to even make such an aggressive move possible by Opening Day.

This decision should, if nothing else, begin the process of Miller taking over at third base going forward. He could end up starting there in 2027, or even as soon as 2026 if he continues to prove himself.

He's becoming the Phillies' most exciting prospect. With the potential to replace Bohm at third base, who's had a tumultuous career with the Phillies fan base, Miller is seemingly closing in on the chance to start with this spring training decision from the Phillies.
