Phillies are 'strong candidate' to trade for AL West outfielder with 16 home runs

The Philadelphia Phillies could use another right-handed hitter to balance their lineup. 

Will they manage to find one at the trade deadline? 

Of course, rumors about a Byron Buxton trade to the Phillies have spread like wildfire for the past few months. 

Buxton has a no-trade clause and holds the keys to his future with the Minnesota Twins, so the Phillies may be out of luck there. 

But there are other options for president of baseball operations Dave Dombroski to consider on the trade market. One possibility is Jo Adell of the Los Angeles Angels, writes Bleacher Report's Kerry Miller. 

"But could a new home and a new hitting coach help Adell turn a corner and get back to homering like he did yesteryear?" wrote Miller. "In a summer where the demand for outfielders drastically outweighs the supply of them, there ought to be quite a few teams motivated to find out." 

Adell is hitting .243/.290/.403 with 16 home runs and a .694 OPS in 105 games this season with the Angels. That follows a career year in 2025 when he hit 37 homers and drove in 98 runs. 

There may be several suitors for Adell

If the Phillies do show interest in Adell, they won't be alone. 

"At the very least, the Phillies are a strong candidate to trade for Adell. If the Tigers are buying, they need a right fielder," Miller added.

"Both the Guardians and White Sox could desperately use some power in the outfield, too. And that's hardly a comprehensive list for this buy-low candidate who might not actually come all that cheap." 

The short list of right-handed hitting outfielders who are expected to be available is short.

Without a real shot at Buxton, Adell could be the guy the Phillies need to balance their lineup.
