(Bloomberg) — The PGA Tour has hired Brian Rolapp as its chief executive officer, charged with leading both the PGA Tour, Inc. and PGA Tour Enterprises, the company’s for-profit arm.

Rolapp’s career spans two decades in the NFL, where he most recently served as the league’s chief media and business officer. He will report to the board of directors of both golf organizations in his new role.

“I come from the National Football League, so I’ll be the first to admit — I’ve got a lot to learn about golf,” Rolapp said in an open letter. “Players are central to everything we do, and making sure they are supported and heard will be a top priority.” Growing the game and reaching new fans are also top goals, he said.

PGA Tour Enterprises formed last year with a $1.5 billion investment from a consortium that includes Arthur Blank, the owner of the Atlanta Falcons, hedge fund billionaire Steve Cohen and John W. Henry, principal owner of Fenway Sports Group. The investment has the potential to reach $3 billion.

As part of the hiring, Jay Monahan will step down from his role as commissioner at the end of 2026 after a decade in the job. He informed the boards last year about the plan, he said in a statement.

“Brian is the perfect choice for the next chapter of the PGA TOUR,” Monahan said.

Rolapp’s appointment concludes a search that began more than a year ago. The hiring committee consisted of Blank, Monahan, pro golfers Tiger Woods and Adam Scott, Joe Gorder, former executive chairman of Valero Energy and Fenway Sports Group’s CEO Sam Kennedy.

During Rolapp’s time at the NFL, he oversaw the NFL’s commercial businesses, including broadcast and digital rights, NFL Network, NFL Films and the league’s private investment entity, 32 Equity. He helped secure a $100 billion-plus media deal for the league with Amazon, CBS, ESPN/ABC, FOX, NBC, Netflix and YouTube.
