The NBA Playoffs are in full swing, but for teams like the Pelicans, their season has been over for a while.

The Pelicans parted ways with head coach James Borrego at the end of the regular season, opening up a head coach vacancy in the organization.

It didn't take long for the team to fill that vacancy, as they inked a deal with a coach who was eliminated from the playoffs and fired just a couple of weeks ago.

NBA insider Shams Charania reported Monday morning that the Pelicans had signed former Magic head coach Jamahl Mosley to become their franchise's next head coach.

He detailed that it is a five-year contract. The Pelicans haven't had a coach stay with the team for a full five seasons or more since Alvin Gentry (2015-20).

After a little over four seasons with the team, the Pelicans fired Willie Green at the start of this season when he and the Pelicans started the year with a 2-10 record.

James Borrego took over for the remaining 70 games. Borrego had a record of 24-36 in that stretch.

47-year old Jamahl Mosley spent five seasons with the Magic, making the playoffs three times, but failing to make it past the first round in all three series.

He led the Magic to a record of .500 or better in the last three seasons and won 45+ games in two of those.

The Pelicans have made the playoffs just twice in the last eight seasons, with 2018 being the last time they made it past the first round.
