Paul Skenes trade rumors get telling prediction from MLB insider

7 hours ago 1

A lot has been made about the Pittsburgh Pirates and a possible trade of superstar pitcher Paul Skenes.

Why would the Pirates trade a generational talent such as Skenes? Well, there's a case to be made, especially since the Pirates don't spend much in free agency and have failed to build a contending team for years.

Pirates GM Bob Cherington appears content on keeping Skenes at all costs, although a monster offer could change the minds of the franchise's top brass.

For the next couple of months, rumors will swirl regarding the Skenes trade front, even if the Pirates continue to say they don't want to trade him.

Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic dropped a telling prediction, and he doesn't see Skenes being traded - at least not this year.

A monster package of major-league-ready hitters for Skenes could align with Jones’ return and the ascent of top pitching prospect Bubba Chandler. But let’s stop making the case for a move beyond Pittsburgh’s capability.

The best bet is that Skenes will still be a Pirate on Aug. 1.

Rosenthal calls it the "best bet" that Skenes hangs around until August 1, which is the MLB trade deadline, and that aligns with everything the Pirates and sources have been saying for some time.

On the other hand, there are proposals out there on the internet that have three, four or even five MLB-level players going to the Pirates for Skenes, so that's something that will be taken into consideration.

But, as Rosenthal predicts, maybe not by this deadline.
