Paul George Injury Update: 76ers star undergoes crucial surgery to recover from knee issue with unclear return timeline

Philadelphia 76ers star Paul George reportedly underwent a successful procedure to treat an injury he sustained during a recent offseason workout.

According to ESPN's Shams Charania, the 35-year-old wing's arthroscopic surgery on Monday was successful. Philadelphia's timeline for George is unclear, but the team said that he will undergo a rehabilitation program right away. The veteran will be re-evaluated at some point before the training camp opens in October.

According to the team's press release, Dr. Jonathan L. Glashow performed George's procedure at the NYU of the Langone Sports Medicine Orthopedic Center.

The nine-time NBA All-Star signed a four-year, $211.6 million contract with the Sixers last offseason. However, George's first season with Philadelphia was marred by multiple setbacks, including injuries to his knee, groin and finger. He was shut down for the season in March.

He appeared in just 41 games and averaged 16.2 points, 5.3 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 1.8 steals per game on 43.0% shooting.

George will enter his 16th NBA season in 2025-26 and is scheduled to make $51.7 million. He has two more years left and has a $56.6 million player option in the 2027-28 season.

Sixers say Joel Embiid is "on track" to be healthy before training camp

According to an article by The Athletic's Tony Jones on Saturday, league sources have indicated that Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid is yet to return to full on-court basketball. Three months removed from his latest knee surgery in April, the former NBA MVP has resumed "partial basketball activities."

Regardless of this, Jones wrote that Sixers president of basketball operations Daryl Morey said in an extensive interview during the Las Vegas summer league that Embiid is "on track" to be healthy for training camp. Jones added that Philadelphia is "optimistic" that its All-Star center will be on the floor for the team's season opener.

Embiid was limited to just 19 games last season. However, when he is on the floor, he averaged 23.8 ppg and 8.2 rpg.

With a wide-open Eastern Conference in 2025-26, Philadelphia, if healthy, is among the favorites to make the playoffs and perhaps make a deep run. The Sixers also hope that 2025 No. 3 pick V.J. Edgecombe could complement their backcourt led by Tyrese Maxey.
