Paul Finebaum is one of the most notable college football analysts in the business. While there are many who don't like him, he has built a great career for himself and has done so with strong takes, analysis, and reporting.
Looking ahead to the 2025 college football season, Finebaum is keeping a close eye on one particular SEC program.
During a segment on the "Paul Finebaum Show," he opened up about one team in the conference that is on the rise. He believes that the South Carolina Gamecocks are going to be a good team in the near future after they showed signs in 2024.
"That's a program that is inching toward the extreme upper echelon," Finebaum said. "They were everybody's favorite team that deserved to be in last year."
Last season, South Carolina ended the year with a 9-4 record and the team went 5-3 in SEC play. The Gamecocks brought back a lot of their talent and should take another step forward in 2025.
Headlining the team is none other than quarterback LaNorris Sellers. He completed 65.6 percent of his pass attempts for 2,534 yards, 18 touchdowns, and seven interceptions last season to go along with 674 rushing yards and seven more touchdowns on the ground.
Sellers is receiving a lot of hype as a potential 2026 NFL Draft top quarterback prospect.
In 2025, South Carolina has been ranked as having the seventh-easiest schedule in the SEC. That will help them have an opportunity to make a lot of noise and make a run at a spot in the College Football Playoff again.
Only time will tell, but the Gamecocks are receiving a lot of hype. It will be interesting to see if they can back that hype up on the field.
