According to Paul Bissonnette, Martin Necas is not going anywhere soon after signing an eight-year contract with the Colorado Avalanche. Necas signed an 8-year, $92 million contract extension on October 30, which will start in the 2026-27 season. He is signed for an annual average salary of $11.5 million, which is just half a million less than what former Avalanche Mikko Rantanen is making in Dallas.

Bissonnette spoke about Necas’ new deal on the Spittin’ Chiclets podcast and said that the deal is good for both sides. He compared it to Mikko Rantanen’s reported asking price before the trade.

"It seems like Rantanen and crew were at $14-13.5, and we're staying firm there," Bissonnette said. "So I think with a little bit more youthful, obviously, that speed that he possesses, and how he's able to match it with Nathan MacKinnon and has that chemistry to get him, "For the eight-year deal at essentially $2 million cheaper. If that was the number, I think that's great."

Martin Necas joined Colorado in January 2025 in a three-team trade with Carolina and Chicago. The trade sent Mikko Rantanen and Taylor Hall to the Hurricanes. However, Rantanen eventually got traded out of Carolina to the Dallas Stars in a short time.

"I think it takes a little bit of pressure off Necas, not coming off as greedy," Bissonnette said. "Fans will probably give him a little bit of leniency in that regard. But I think that that's an incredible number for both sides."

Bissonnette added that Necas still needs to prove himself in the playoffs.

"You know, I think that the playoff performance is yet to be judged," Bissonnette said. "I don't think we've seen like true Necas' playoff time where he's buzzing around and looks like he is at his peak. That is yet to be determined. "But I couldn't be happier for the guy, and he fits in perfectly. It justifies the trade now."

Martin Necas talked about a new contract with Avalanche

Martin Necas said he is very happy to sign a long-term contract with the Avalanche. The 26-year-old forward started this season with an eight-game point streak. He has 16 points in 12 games so far.

"Super excited and happy to get this done," Necas said, via NHL.com, "I’m excited for the times ahead now. Now I can just focus on playing hockey, winning hockey games, and do whatever it takes to bring a Cup back here to Colorado."

Martin Necas blends well with the Avalanche’s style and chemistry. The team hopes he will help them stay among the NHL’s top teams.
