Patriots turned down a better offer for Joe Milton III before sending him to Cowboys

The New England Patriots traded Joe Milton III to the Dallas Cowboys. However, they reportedly had a better offer on the table but wanted to send Milton to a preferred destination.

According to NFL Insider Jordan Schultz, the Patriots had interest from many teams but ended up sending Milton to the Cowboys out of respect for him.

"My understanding is since Joe Milton became available at the start of the offseason, teams that showed interest included the (Las Vegas) Raiders, Eagles, (New York) Giants, (Pittsburgh) Steelers and the (Dallas) Cowboys," Schultz wrote on X. "The (Patriots) had a better offer for Milton but chose to send him where he wanted out of respect for him, per source."

Milton started one game last season. He went 20-34 and finished with 244 yards and a touchdown. In his final collegiate season, he had 2,813 passing yards and 20 touchdowns. He added 299 rushing yards and seven rushing touchdowns. He is a high-upside prospect, but the Patriots have no need for him right now.

The Patriots spent a sixth-round pick on Milton last season. They ended up trading him and a seventh-round pick to the Cowboys in exchange for a fifth-rounder. According to Mark Daniels of MassLive, Milton wanted to go to a team where he could compete for a starting job.

However, the Cowboys are far from that. Dak Prescott is cemented as the team's starter, and Milton's only chance at starting would be if Prscott was injured.
