Patriots positional coach considered candidate for open college job

The New England Patriots have made a number of changes to their coaching staff over the last year and more could be on the way.

Former Patriots linebackers coach Steve Belichick, who is currently serving as the defensive coordinator at the University of Washington, is set to join his father, Bill, at the University of North Carolina in the same role.

According to On3's Pete Nakos, current Patriots linebackers coach Drew Wilkins is considered an option to replace the younger Belichick as Washington's defensive coordinator. Wilkins would join Washington head coach Jedd Fisch, who served as New England's quarterbacks coach in 2020.

Wilkins came to the Patriots after stints with the New York Giants and Baltimore Ravens over the last two years.

Having coached in New England this year, he could continue Washington's defensive scheme with both teams running the same system.
