Patriots’ new free agent signing is their next Rex Burkhead at running back

3 hours ago 1

The New England Patriots were rightly praised for their second-round NFL Draft selection of Ohio State running back TreVeyon Henderson.

He wasn't the only RB they came away from draft weekend with, though.

The Pats gave out their biggest undrafted free agent contract to a running back, too. That'd be Lan Larison from UC-Davis.

According to The Athletic's Chad Graff, it was $175K guaranteed for Larison to sign with New England.

Graff went on to break down how Larison might be a lot like former Patriots fan favorite Rex Burkhead.

Maybe this is too simple of a comp, but perhaps the Patriots are hoping there's some Rex Burkhead to Lan Larison's game.

Getting a Burkhead-type as an undrafted free agent would be a major victory.

Burkhead spent four seasons in New England, rushing for more than 1,000 yards, catching 96 passes and scoring 18 total TDs.

Henderson can be the running back of the future, but there's always a need for another guy back there. Maybe, just maybe, it can be Larison.
