For just a moment, New England Patriots fans got very excited.
Julian Edelman coming out of retirement to sign with the Pats? Whoa.
Well, except that it's not true.
In this case, Edelman himself began the rumor with this post on his own social media:
Let’s get to work #FoxboroForever pic.twitter.com/qYcX9gNlNy
— Julian Edelman (@Edelman11) April 1, 2026MORE: Eagles' new signing flew himself as a pilot to Philadelphia
The key here is that Edelman made the post on April 1. It's April Fools Day, and he's just messing around.
The three-time Super Bowl champion, and a former Super Bowl MVP, is one of the all-time fan favorites for the Patriots.
He's not a big dude, and he played quarterback at Kent State, but he still became one of the most impactful slot receivers in NFL history.
Edelman caught 620 passes for 6,822 yards and 36 touchdowns in his career.
When did he last play? The 2020 season.
He's now 39 years old, turning 40 in May.
An Edelman comeback would be even more unprecedented than what Philip Rivers did with the Colts during the 2025 season.
Don't count on seeing Edelman in a Patriots uniform anytime soon. But it's certainly an idea that would be exciting to Pats fans.
