Patrick Mahomes injury update
Mahomes has been diagnosed with a torn ACL, the Chiefs announced Sunday night.
"An MRI has confirmed that Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes sustained a torn ACL in his left knee in today’s game. Patrick and the club are currently exploring surgical options," the team's statement read.
The injury is set to rule Mahomes out for the remainder of the 2025 season, and potentially some of the 2026 season.
On Monday, the Chiefs said that Mahomes had already undergone his ACL surgery, although they did not offer a timetable for the quarterback.
"Patrick Mahomes successfully underwent surgery in Dallas this evening with Dr. Dan Cooper to repair the tear in his left ACL," the team said in a statement. "Mahomes will begin his rehab process immediately."
Head coach Andy Reid said after the game that Mahomes hurt his left knee, and he got an MRI on Sunday night. That confirmed the torn ACL.

A few hours after the game, Mahomes thanked everyone for their support on Twitter, a sign of his long-term injury diagnosis.
Don’t know why this had to happen. And not going to lie it’s hurts. But all we can do now is Trust in God and attack every single day over and over again. Thank you Chiefs kingdom for always supporting me and for everyone who has reached out and sent prayers. I Will be back…

Kansas City has been eliminated from playoff contention, so the starting quarterback could have ended up sitting the remainder of the season regardless of the severity of his injury.
