Patrick Mahomes didn't take long to address his devastating torn ACL that not only ended his season but also officially closed the door on the Kansas City Chiefs’ playoff hopes for the first time in a decade.

The injury occurred in the final minutes of the Chiefs' 16–13 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers, when Mahomes was rolled up from behind by defensive lineman Da’Shawn Hand. The quarterback immediately grabbed his left knee and needed assistance to reach the locker room.

An MRI later confirmed a season-ending ACL tear. Mahomes got emotional while addressing the injury and his feelings on X:

“Don’t know why this had to happen. And not going to lie it hurts,” Mahomes wrote. “But all we can do now is trust in God and attack every single day.”

He promised to “be back stronger than ever,” and thanked Chiefs fans for their continued support.

With Mahomes sidelined, Andy Reid will turn to Gardner Minshew for the final three games.

The loss officially eliminated the Chiefs from playoff contention. They'll miss the postseason for the first time since 2014 in what seems to signal an end to a decade-long dominance. The team has yet to announce a recovery timeline as Mahomes and the organization explore surgical options.
