When it comes to kids’ birthday parties, you’d think there were only so many ways to reinvent the wheel. But one parent has well and truly said ‘hold my piñata.’
She’s ditching the party altogether… but still wants the presents.
“They’re deciding to try an online party”
A very confused guest wrote in an advice forum:
“I got an invitation through Facebook from one of my kid’s friend’s moms about an upcoming birthday. My child has gone to their parties before, and they’ve come to ours,” she explained.

She opened the invite expecting to see the usual details. Date, time, location, theme, RSVP. But that’s not what she found.
“Instead, it just says they’re deciding to try an online party. The way that works is you just order her stuff and have it sent to this address,” the mom shared.
“Maybe this is a new thing kids are doing?”
The invite also came with a list of gift suggestions.
“A list of things the child likes and it ends with ‘or you can Venmo her money,” she added.
While the idea might sound like a clever way to skip the post-party clean-up every parent dreads, the mom admitted she was taken aback.
“This seems a little odd to me?” she wrote.
She said she could understand if it was just family invited.
“Sending out invitations for classmates to just send her gifts? I don’t know. Is this a new way of celebrating birthdays that I’ve just never heard about? Skip the party and just ask for stuff?” she asked.
“She just sent out ways everyone could make sure to still give her presents”
She insists in her post that this wasn’t a misunderstanding. The intentions were crystal clear.
“The little girl wanted to go to a hotel for the weekend instead of having a party. So she just sent out ways everyone could make sure to still give her presents,” the mother clarified.
Commenters had plenty to say about this new-age party approach.

The top voted comment simply said: “Beyond rude… delete and ignore.”
“Omg this mom is off her rocker!” another added.
“Say ‘sorry our dog is also having his virtual bday party the same day,'” a third suggested.
And just when she thought the situation couldn’t get any more bizarre, the mother revealed a new plot twist.
“I was scrolling on Facebook and saw she went and copied and pasted what she wrote in the invitation ON HER NEWSFEED!”
“So now it’s not just the handful of us who usually attend her birthday parties that she’s asking for presents from—it’s everyone on her friends list.”
Ain’t no party like a wishlist party… ‘cause the wishlist don’t stop!
