Matthew Tkachuk's landing back in the United States came a lot closer to home base than many of his teammates.

That won't stop him from hopping on another flight after winning the gold medal for Team USA.

The Florida Panthers star spoke with reporters in Miami after the U.S. returned stateside from their triumph in Milan, Italy.

President Donald Trump has invited the team to the State of the Union on Tuesday night.

The timing is a bit tricky because many NHL teams return to play on Wednesday, but it sounds like the men's team plays to make it to the address.

Tkachuk confirmed that he himself will be there, via the Miami Herald's Jordan McPherson.

Tkachuk was joined on the Olympic team by his younger brother Brady, who plays for the Ottawa Senators.

For Matthew Tkachuk, there's been some speculation as to whether the Panthers may limit his play down the stretch of the season anyway as he battles injury.

At least in this case, the Panthers' schedule helps Tkachuk out. They don't play until Thursday, when they will host the Toronto Maple Leafs (and Team USA captain Auston Matthews).

In the meantime, Tkachuk is heading to the nation's capital.
