The Florida Panthers are very much the team of the NHL's present with their back-to-back Stanley Cup titles.
But one of their most important future pieces is entering restricted free agency.
Mackie Samoskevich, the 22-year old winger, could be looking at a small extension.
Pro Hockey Rumors predicts he could get a deal of two years for $3 million total.
Samoskevich is coming off a season in which he scored 15 goals with 16 assists in the regular season. He only dressed for four postseason games, though.
He might not be the highest priority in Florida, with Brad Marchand and Aaron Ekblad still out there. But a deal could get done at some point.
"With no true pressure points, this is a case that could drag on a bit but there’s value in getting something done sooner rather than later so they know how much they have to spend on their core free agents," PHR writes.

Samoskevich was the 24th overall pick in 2021 out of Michigan.
He had only played seven NHL games before this past season.
The 5-foot-11 speedster looks ready for a bigger role if Florida needs him to take one, so don't forget the name Samoskevich.
