Panthers cut ties with 97-tackle linebacker due to brutal concussion symptoms

It's a tough break for everyone involved.

Carolina Panthers linebacker Josey Jewell is one of the more reliable middle linebackers in the NFL. But as of Tuesday, he's no longer with the Panthers.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that the "Panthers released veteran linebacker Josey Jewell at a time he continues to experience concussion symptoms."

That can't a great sign for the health state that Jewell is in.

He was able to play in 12 games last season in his first year with Carolina, and he had 97 tackles, seven passes defensed and 3.5 sacks.

The two prior seasons with the Broncos, Jewell had triple-digit tackles.

In 90 career NFL games, Jewell has 550 tackles and 12.5 sacks.

The Panthers let former first-round LB Shaq Thompson walk this offseason, and he signed with the Bills. Losing Jewell likely wasn't a part of that plan.

Now, Carolina will have to regroup and figure out who belongs in the middle of the defense.
