Paige Bueckers showed some support to her Unrivaled teammates over the weekend.
The new 3-on-3 league co-founded by Breanna Stewart and Napheesa Collier had eventful few days capped off by Skylar Diggins-Smith hitting a walk-off 3-pointer to prevail the Lunar Owls to an 84-80 win over Mist BC. The first few days of the league being in action has seen the support of many noteworthy figures, including Kevin Durant, who took to X to express his excitement.
“I love the concept of @Unrivaledwbb... it's great see our pros hoopin on tv during the winter months,” the future NBA hall of famer wrote on opening night. While Unrivaled is locked in for their first official season, they’ve already got some great names joining them in the future. One of those is Paige Bueckers, who made history last fall the first-ever college basketball player to get a Nike sneaker release with her Paige Bueckers x Nike GT Hustle 3 player exclusive.
Bueckers showed her individual support by posting a picture of herself on Instagram wearing a black Unrivaled hoodie. “The future starts tomorrow 🙌🏻 Watch Unrivaled’s Opening Weekend on TNT, truTV, and Max,” she captioned the post. The college basketball star signed her deal this past August, and is currently projected to be the top pick in the WNBA Draft in April.
This past October, she also earned another honor when she was named on the Naismith Women's Player of the Year Watch List. Another up-and-coming Unrivaled player to watch for is Cameron Brink, who has been supporting her future teammates in Miami. During a practice session a couple of weeks ago, Brink nailed a half court shot smack dab in the middle of the Unrivaled logo, celebrating with Diggins-Smith.
LSU’s Flau’jae Johnson is also on board to join, signing an NIL deal with the league in December, where it was announced that she will be getting an equity stake in the league as well. A two-time national champion and top WNBA draft prospect, Johnson has commanded a lot of attention in recent years not just for her basketball skills, but for her rap career and endorsement deals.
The first week of action will culminate on Monday, Jan. 20 on TNT, truTV and Max with Vinyl BC vs. Phantom BC at 8:30 p.m. EST, and Laces BC vs. Mist BC at 9:30 p.m EST.
