If you're reading this on Friday, May 16: Happy Paige Bueckers Day.

And if you're reading this from Hopkins, Minnesota, no you aren't: Today, your city is known as Paige Bueckers, Minnesota.

Bueckers' hometown renamed itself on Friday in honor of the former UConn star's WNBA debut with the Dallas Wings. The Wings ironically host the Minnesota Lynx for their opener.

Hopkins, just west of Minneapolis, made the proclamation of this special day just shortly after Bueckers was drafted No. 1 overall by Dallas.

“I didn’t believe it at first. I thought it was fake news,” Bueckers told The Dallas Morning News. “It’s all so surreal. It’s crazy to me that they would name the whole city after me.”

Bueckers is coming off a legendary Connecticut career, which she capped off with her first national title.

In high school at Hopkins, Bueckers led the way to a 32-0 junior season, then didn't get a chance to defend the state championship due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In the WNBA preseason, Bueckers had 25 points, nine rebounds and seven assists across two games.

The hope for the Wings is that the player who literally has a city named after her can deliver on her massive potential.
