Padres reportedly shopping 2.32 ERA reliever not named Mason Miller in trade talks

While the entire baseball world waits patiently for the San Diego Padres to make a trade decision on closer Mason Miller, there's another reliever they could deal. 

Obviously, Miller is the crown jewel of the deadline. 

But the Padres have a few other bullpen arms who could have value on the trade market. The New York Post's Jon Heyman reported that San Diego is shopping one of them in trade discussions. 

"One Padres reliever actively being discussed in trades is Wandy Peralta, solid lefty with a 2.32 ERA," Heyman wrote on X. 

Peralta is an 11-year MLB veteran in his third season with the Padres. He primarily relies on a hefty dose of sinkers and changeups. 

How Peralta can help contending teams

In terms of batting average against, Peralta has performed better against right-handed hitters than lefties in nearly an identical number of plate appearances. 

That could prove valuable to rival executives.

Peralta had his breakout season in the Majors in 2021 when he was acquired from the San Francisco Giants by the New York Yankees. 

Since that point, he's never posted an ERA above 3.99, throwing 50 or more innings four times. 

Though Peralta is nowhere near the same level of dominance as Miller, he's not a bad option for contending clubs to consider at the trade deadline.
