Padres predicted to lose top trade target, All-Star Game MVP, to Mets

Reports have continued to surface that the San Diego Padres are interested in trading for Boston Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran.

It remains uncertain if the Red Sox plants move on from him, but there's also reason to believe it could happen. The Red Sox Outfield is loaded with young talent, and while Duran somewhat fits that mold, considering he's not old himself, it's possible that the front office could look to move on from him to allow Roman Anthony and others to get full-time at-bats.

The expectation is that the Padres will be interested if he becomes available, but Sportsnaut recently noted that the New York Mets could also get involved. While the Padres' farm system is decent, the Mets might be able to beat their package.

“Duran does offer plenty of experience (266 games played) in center field, so he could be a compelling option for the New York Mets. At the All-Star Break, Mets center fielders ranked 19th in OPS (.663), and this club would certainly benefit from acquiring more cost-controlled talent with the Juan Soto contract on its books. As for Boston, it could focus on top Mets prospects like Jonah Tong and Nolan McLean, right-handed starters who could reach the majors within a year,” they wrote.

Duran playing in New York would be intriguing, as he's already proven that he can deal with the bright lights of Boston. San Diego would be a bit different, and while the Padres fan base is big, it's not the same as playing in New York City or Boston.

However, regardless of that, landing Duran would be a great addition for the Padres, as he's continued to prove that he has star potential, and has really swung the bat at a high level during July prior to the All-Star break.
