The San Diego Padres are in the market for corner outfield help with their hole in left field. There are plenty of options available at the trade deadline, and one player from the Miami Marlins was recently linked to the team.
According to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com, the Padres are linked to Marlins left-handed slugger Jesus Sanchez as a potential fit at the trade deadline. With a need in left field and Sanchez having a solid year, the two sides have reason to swing a deal.
Sanchez is currently signed for $4.5 million in 2025, and he is under team control through the 2027 season. Those extra two years of control through his age-29 season make Sanchez a sought-after commodity at the trade deadline.
For Miami, they are looking to shed some of their talent for prospects and cheap players. The Padres, meanwhile, have a hole in left field and could use more left-handed hitters in the lineup.
It's a fit for both teams, and for Sanchez, he'd look to continue his solid 2025 season on the opposite side of the country. In 2025, Sanchez is having another good year. His 104 OPS+ is tied for his second-highest in his career, and he's been compiling solid numbers in his sixth season in the Major Leagues.
Across his 52 games played and 184 at-bats, Sanchez has 47 hits, 22 runs scored, seven doubles, one triple, seven home runs, 28 RBIs, seven stolen bases, and 20 walks. He's also struck out 49 times and has grounded into five double plays.
With the Padres needing left field help and the Marlins likely being open to trading away Sanchez, the Padres would be strong contenders to land the Marlins' slugger. He fits a need, is a multi-year addition, and would also be a fun player to watch.
