Padres linked to breakout 21 home run, All-Star left fielder

The San Diego Padres are one of the top teams in the market for an outfielder. A.J. Preller and the front office are looking to be aggressive, and while Boston Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran may be out of reach, there's another outfielder who could be a huge get.

Jim Bowden of The Athletic made the connection between the Padres and Miami Marlins left fielder Kyle Stowers. The All-Star outfielder would cost a lot, but the Padres, looking to be aggressive, could make it work.

"The Marlins are planning to build around All-Star outfielder Kyle Stowers," Bowden writes, "but all bets are off if a club like the Reds, Padres, or Royals wants to make an offer so strong they can't say no."

Preller and the Padres won't be alone in their interest in Stowers. If he were to be up for grabs, plenty of teams would be trying to pry him away from the Marlins' grasp. But, he'd cost a ton to trade for.

The former Baltimore Orioles top prospect was traded to Miami, and this season, he's been breaking out in a major way. Through 94 games this season, Stowers has 93 hits, 48 runs scored, 14 doubles, three triples, 21 home runs, 59 RBIs, 36 walks, and 100 strikeouts.

His 2025 campaign has been a breakout one so far, as his .295 batting average, .372 on-base percentage, .559 slugging percentage, and .930 OPS are all the highest of his career thus far.

The 27-year-old made the All-Star team in 2025 and also participated in the first-ever swing-off, where he hit one of the National League's four home runs to secure the win for the NL.

It's been an eventful season for Stowers, and a trade at the deadline could make it even more wild. His 154 OPS+ would be a huge addition to the Padres' lineup, and would cost a lot to land.

Under team control through the 2029 season, Stowers would have plenty of suitors, and plenty of offers that the Padres may find difficult to replicate. But Preller has a knack for blockbuster deals, especially involving outfielders.

To land Stowers, it may cost a lot, but as Bowden mentions, the Padres, who are poised to be aggressive at the deadline, could make a strong offer that's too good to pass on for the Marlins.
