Padres demote former Yankee to minor leagues

After being designated him for assignment last, the San Diego Padres announced that are sending Tyler Wade to Triple-A El Paso.

The former New York Yankee cleared waivers, and with his demotion, Wade will officially pass on his option for free agency after the season.

The utility player is currently hitting .206, just above the Mendoza line, in 2025 after hitting .217 with the Padres last year.

Wade's current career stat line through nine seasons reads a .216 average with just seven home runs, 60 runs batted in, and 51 stolen bases.

Wade was selected by the Yankees in the 2013 MLB draft in the fourth round, making his major league debut with the Bronx Bombers four years later.

This is the second time in the 2025 season that Wade will be playing with the El Paso Chihuahuas, as he was DFA'd by the Friars to begin the 2025 season, before being sent to the minors again, only to be called back up 10 days later.

Hopefully, in Wade's case, his game can improve to a professional level, but with the addition of players such as Ryan O'Hearn and Freddy Fermin, there simply doesn't seem to be any space on the San Diego roster for the Murrieta, CA native.
