Padres' 'aggressive' trade deadline approach could land Angels' 37 home run outfielder

The San Diego Padres, more specifically president of baseball operations A.J. Preller, is not afraid to make big moves.

Preller's focus for this season is centered on what the Padres need at the trade deadline. The overwhelming answer is offense.

"Just remember, it was only a few years ago when he was debating trading for Juan Soto or Shohei Ohtani (he eventually got Soto)," FanSided's Robert Murray wrote about Preller. "I’m not positive he takes that big of a swing this year unless he can ensure he keeps prized prospect Ethan Salas. But then again, it’s Preller."

San Diego ranks 30th in the Majors with a .657 OPS. Manny Machado, Fernando Tatis Jr., and Jackson Merrill have combined to hit just 23 home runs.

That's a major reason why the Padres are tied with the Texas Rangers for 21st in homers with 78.

They certainly could use more pop in the lineup, and Murray tabbed Los Angeles Angels outfielder Jo Adell as someone who could help.

The Angels are a rebuilding team, and Adell hit a career-high 37 homers in 2025. That would rank third amongst Padres hitters.

Plus, he would be less expensive than, say, a trade for Byron Buxton. Still, an extra year of control could require an extra prospect going the Angels' way.

Would Adell be a solution to the Padres' problem? No, but it would almost certainly give them a boost in the middle of the order against left-handed pitching.
