The Green Bay Packers and Pittsburgh Steelers have been connected in a trade involving a quarterback.
Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox believes Packers quarterback Malik Willis could be on the move, and Knox lists the Steelers as a potential trade suitor for Willis.
"The Steelers should also consider kicking the tires on Willis. Aaron Rodgers isn't a long-term solution in Pittsburgh, and Willis' dual-threat skill set would fit the system of offensive coordinator Arthur Smith," Knox wrote.
Willis was traded to Green Bay from the Tennessee Titans after the 2024 preseason.
The Liberty product was forced into game action early in the season last year after Jordan Love suffered a sprained MCL, and led the Packers to a 2-0 record as the starter, filling in admirably for Love.
In seven appearances in 2024, Willis tossed three touchdowns to zero interceptions with a 74.1% completion rate. He also added a score on the ground.
Willis is one of the better backup quarterbacks in football, so it wouldn't make much sense for Green Bay to trade him away and ruin their depth at the position. However, a team that views Willis as a starter could overpay for the 26-year-old.
Pittsburgh would've been an intriguing landing spot for Willis a few months ago. However, Mike Tomlin's squad already has a deep quarterback room with Aaron Rodgers, Mason Rudolph, and Will Howard. Adding Willis to the fold would create a crowded position group.
Overall, the Steelers and Packers should be comfortable with their quarterback rooms, so no trade is needed between the two storied franchises.
