Packers, Lions, Chiefs could make trade with Giants based on latest rumor

The Green Bay Packers, Detroit Lions, or Kansas City Chiefs could reach out to the New York Giants to make a trade for a former first-round pick this offseason.

According to SNY's Connor Hughes, the Giants are looking to move on from edge rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux via a trade.

Thibodeaux is entering the final year of his rookie deal in 2026.

"Based on conversations with teams that met with New York, the sense is they would prefer to [trade Thibodeaux]. They are actively exploring trade options. Harbaugh, Aponte and Schoen must determine the appropriate value," Hughes wrote.

Thibodeaux had a rough 2025 campaign, tallying just 2.5 sacks in ten games, and doesn't have a long-term future in New York anymore, with Brian Burns and Abdul Carter serving as the primary pass rushers.

In his last fully healthy season in 2023, Thibodeaux posted 11.5 sacks and 43 quarterback pressures, showing that he can be a difference-maker on any team's defensive line when he's at his best.

Green Bay, Detroit, and Kansas City will be in the market for an edge rusher, and make sense as possible landing spots for Thibodeaux.

The Packers are expected to cut Rashan Gary this offseason, and with Micah Parsons recovering from a torn ACL, pass rush could become a crisis.

Al-Quadin Muhammad is set to hit free agency, and if he walks, trading for Thibodeaux to replace him and give Aidan Hutchinson a dynamic running mate would be a savvy move from general manager Brad Holmes.

Finally, the Chiefs moved on from Mike Danna last week and had a lackluster pass-rush in 2025. Thibodeaux wouldn't fix all of Kansas City's issues, but he would definitely help.

Thibodeaux will have a new home in 2026, and the Packers, Lions, and Chiefs could be potential trade partners for the Giants.
