The Green Bay Packers were without running back Josh Jacobs in their Week 1 game against the Minnesota Vikings, and boy, could they feel it. The Vikings pulled off a comeback victory for that NFC North showdown with a 39-22 final score.
It's imperative that the Packers get Jacobs back, but he remains on the commissioner's exempt list because of a May incident between him and his former girlfriend. So, he's currently not allowed to practice or play until this gets worked out.
The league is continuing to conduct its own, independent investigation to decide the length of his potential suspension. But, when that's said and done, the Packers are looking at having him back full-time.
Josh Jacobs will get credit for time spent on exempt list
Those wondering if the games Jacobs is missing right now will count toward his suspension finally have an answer. According to Jonathan Jones of The Athletic, the games that this impressive player is missing as the league makes its final call will count toward any suspension time.
"When he is eventually suspended, he will be credited with time served," Jones stated in a feature out on Saturday. "For example, if after three games on the exempt list Jacobs is suspended six games by the league, he will be eligible to return in Week 7 against the Lions."
Jones added, "He would have to pay back the three game checks he received while on the exempt list."
So, at least the Packers won't have to deal with Jacobs being suspended on top of the games he's already missed. But Jones uses an example of six games for a suspension, and if that's in line with what Jacobs is getting, that's quite a few games.
So, as it stands, there's no announcement on how many games Jacobs will miss. But, it's good news for the Packers that he won't have to miss games on top of the early ones that he's not playing.
