Packers could trade 24-year-old CB thanks to pair of rookies

The Green Bay Packers should be a good team in 2026, but they're going to need some help defensively with Jeff Hafley, now the head coach of the Miami Dolphins.

It's more than just the head coach that's important for the Packers, as the cornerback room is a big topic of conversation for the Packers this season. They have a few starters, but their depth is decent enough that they could trade from this group.

Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox believes the Packers could look to trade 24-year-old cornerback Carrington Valentine, thanks in large part to rookies Brandon Cisse and Domani Jackson.

"With Benjamin St-Juste, rookie second-round pick Brandon Cisse, and rookie sixth-rounder Domani Jackson now in the mix at corner, Valentine's future in Green Bay is uncertain," Knox writes.

Looking over the Packers depth chart, moving on from a cornerback before the start of the 2026 regular season would actually make some sense.

Keisean Nixon, Carrington Valentine, Javon Bullard, Brandon Cisse, Benjamin St-Juste, Domani Jackson, Kamal Hadden, Shemar Bartholomew, and MJ Devonshire Jr. make up the Packers' cornerback group.

If the Packers see enough out of their rookies and St-Juste, trading Valentine would actually make a lot of sense for the team's future.

Not only would it give the rookies a chance to play right away, but it would also allow the Packers to get guaranteed draft compensation for a cornerback set to hit free agency after 2026.

Plus, with his regression last season, posting a rough 121.2 passer rating allowed last year after having an 80.1 in 2024 and an 84.8 in his 2023 rookie season, moving on from Valentine would not be met with much pushback.

Trading Valentine would make a lot of sense for the Packers, especially if they could get a decent Day 3 draft pick for him. Even if it's only a sixth-round pick, the Packers should consider such a deal with his expiring contract and regression last year.
