Packers' 2-pick ideal start to NFL Draft is missing something

1 hour ago 3

The Green Bay Packers would love to have a great start to the 2026 NFL Draft.

One problem, though: They don't have a first-round pick.

That went away in the Micah Parsons trade, so there isn't regret. It just makes the draft a bit less exciting.

The Packers can still maximize their chances, though. Pro Football Focus released a new article in which they name an ideal start to the first three rounds of the draft for each team.

For the Packers, that means just these two "ideal" picks:

  • OL Caleb Tiernan
  • CB Chandler Rivers

Tiernan is a Detroit native who played his college football at Northwestern.

"Not picking until the second round, the Packers might prioritize their offensive line given the potential losses of Rasheed Walker and Elgton Jenkins," PFF writes. "Tiernan, who played left tackle at Northwestern but may move inside, could be a fit. The former Wildcat permitted just 26 pressures over the last two seasons."

Rivers was a star in the secondary for the Duke Blue Devils.

"Green Bay’s brass seemed to express contentment with its cornerback room, but the bunch sat 13th in overall PFF grade, and both Keisean Nixon and Carrington Valentine are 2027 free agents," PFF writes. "Rivers could give the team inside-outside versatility after boasting a 74.5 PFF coverage grade or better in both man and zone last year."

Most fans won't write home about the selection of an offensive lineman or a cornerback, but they're two spots the Packers need help at. In reality, this would be about the best Green Bay can do given the limited draft capital.
