Packers' $2 million UDFA predicted to earn roster spot as perfect fit for major team need

The Green Bay Packers still have a few potential moves they could make on the defensive side of the ball. Adding depth in key areas would benefit a team that genuinely believes it can contend for a Super Bowl. One area still under consideration is the defensive line, and veteran pass rusher Matthew Judon could be a strong fit.

“Even though the Packers struck gold last season with Javon Bullard and Evan Williams, they cannot depend on Sorrell and Oliver to be instant contributors from Day 1. Therefore, it would be best for them to bring in a veteran before training camp begins later this month, as they still don’t know what former first-round pick Lukas Van Ness is,” Dairyland Express’ Jovan Alford wrote. “Given the current talent in the edge department, there's nothing to lose by bringing in Judon. If he’s motivated and looking to prove that last year wasn’t his best, the Packers could end up getting a steal.”

Depth at linebacker is also a concern, but undrafted free agent Jamon Dumas-Johnson could be exactly what the team needs in that role.

“The Packers have a solid starting trio at linebacker with Edgerrin Cooper, Quay Walker, and Isaiah McDuffie. But because Eric Wilson left in free agency, the team is still looking for depth options that can play a backup defensive role and be effective special teamers. This is exactly what Jamon Dumas-Johnson can be,” A to Z Sports’ Wendell Ferreira wrote.

Dumas-Johnson began his college career at Georgia, where he made an immediate impact before injuries slowed him down. He later transferred to Kentucky for his final season.

“In 2022, Dumas-Johnson started all 15 games for Georgia and produced 70 tackles, 9.0 tackles for loss, 4.0 sacks and a forced fumble -- earning him All-American honors. He suffered a forearm injury in 2023 and played in only nine games before departing via the transfer portal to Kentucky, where he played in 11 games and was the team leader in tackles while also producing 7.0 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks in 2024,” Packers Wire’s Zach Kruse wrote.
