The Green Bay Packers made a surprising decision to move Bo Melton to the defensive side of the ball after he began his career as an offensive player. Melton is currently fighting for a roster spot, and so far, the move appears to be going according to plan.
“Again, they screamed receiver, too, but again, right when we brought him in, it was something that we discussed as a personnel group, but then again, he took off as a receiver and certainly we needed him in some of those occasions. But I think, you know, again, it's very, very early, but after these first five, six days, I think the decision by Matt to kind of keep him at corner and let him grow there and see how that worked was wise because he’s done some really good things for us,” GM Brian Gutekunst said.
Defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley made it clear that the Packers win with players like Melton.
“But at the same time, I think everybody’s gotta kinda just — alright, let’s slow down, everything’s not gonna look perfect. But I was fired up. I love the guy. You win with guys like Bo,” Hafley said.
Special teams coordinator Rich Bisaccia echoed that sentiment, noting Melton’s potential impact regardless of where he lines up.
“We're excited to have him regardless what side of the ball he's on. We think he's going to have an impact on our team,” Bisaccia said.

Packers beat writer Ryan Wood suggested that Bisaccia’s praise could indicate Melton is carving out a role on the final 53-man roster.
“Rich Bisaccia believes Bo Melton will be an "elite" special teams play, impressed with what he's doing as he transitions to cornerback: "16, green man. He's still Bo Melton. He's fast. He's still got a smile on his face." Seems to bode well for his shot at a 53 spot,” Wood posted.
Melton is proving to be the ultimate team player—willing to play any role he’s given. He has embraced this transition with a positive mindset and professionalism, and with each passing day, it looks more and more like he’ll be rewarded with a spot on the roster.
