Pacers’ Tyrese Haliburton given crazy disrespect by NBA players

5 hours ago 1

Tyrese Haliburton is one of the best players in the NBA.

But is the Indiana Pacers guard actually overrated?

That's what a poll of his peers says. The Athletic polled hundreds of NBA players anonymously with a bunch of questions, and one asked who the league's most overrated player is.

Haliburton got the most votes, at more than 14 percent. He managed to hold off Rudy Gobert (10 percent) for this brutal honor.

It's a bit of an odd take, given that Haliburton sets records all the time having to do with scoring, assisting and not turning the ball over.

He also led the Pacers to the Eastern Conference Finals a season ago.

Gobert classically ranks high in this poll by The Athletic as someone who isn't an offensive threat and manages to get played off the floor defensively in the playoffs despite being a supposed all-world defender.

Haliburton, though, is new to this line of thinking.

A poll of NBA fans probably wouldn't overrate Haliburton, in part because he plays in Indiana in a mid-sized market.

But NBA players must think he's not quite worth the hype when they match up.

Haliburton gets a chance to prove them wrong in this postseason. He's already got the Pacers out to a 1-0 series lead of the Bucks.

If Indiana moves on, it'd likely be a matchup with 1-seed Cleveland. Pull the upset there and that overrated tag would get knocked right off.
